Why the name? "Mattie" is shortened from Matilda Thompson, Laura's great-grandmother. She was known as "Tillie," and is famous for her baking, especially her cookies. Matilda was married to Charles Thompson and was the mother of Melvin (Grandpa "Mick") Thompson. Matilda passed away in 1987, when Laura was in 1st grade. "Bea" comes from Beatrice Thompson, Laura's grandmother. Grandma Bea has 4 children and 9 grand-children. She is so excited to have her first GREAT grand-child. :)
